The Allt-A-Bhainne distillery, tucked into the lower slopes of Ben Rinnes, catches the last rays of sunlight on a clear autumn day last year.
I took this aerial shot in the final minute of my flight from the peak of Ben Rinnes. It was a good day of flying: earlier I had been soaring in thermals strong enough to take me a few hundred metres above the peak of Ben Rinnes, giving spectularly long-ranging views over much of the North-East and some of the Highlands of Scotland.
The distillery is atypical of the romance attributed to the production of whisky in Speyside: its spirit is almost entirely used to create blends (Chivas Regal being one of its target products) after being matured in warehouses in Keith.
