Winter Jacket – Muskoka Brewery

Av JoeSeliske
October 12, 2013 – Tennessee Whiskey Barrel Aged Winter Jacket from the Muskoka Brewery in Bracebridge, Ontario. This bottle came wrapped in white tissue paper with the attached tag around its neck. My wife picked this up at the brewery in August.

It poured out a deep brown, almost black with minimal carbonation but at least two fingers of frothy light brown head. The aroma was of the barrel, bourbon in an oak barrel. The taste was "warm" from the onset, the 9% alcohol rearing its head from the get-go. It was difficult to taste anything beyond the bourbon/alcohol. It was somewhat sweet and woody.

I wouldn’t call this a novelty beer, but there is some hype due to the aging in Tennessee Whiskey barrels. Wasn’t Tennessee Whiskey the secret ingredient in Dr. McCoy’s baked beans in Star Trek V when they were camping in Yosemite National Park?
